A Qualitative Approach to Dependability Engineering

نویسنده

چکیده

Dependability is usually defined in terms of other quality attributes such as reliability and security rather than being directly measurable. In order to design dependable systems, the architect must balance the attributes that define dependability with other quality attributes. Often these qualities have incompatible units and scales of measure. This investigation examined techniques for using qualitative reasoning to build reasoning frameworks that can accommodate measures of qualitative attributes, such as security, and quantitative values, such as reliability, to guide the architecture definition process. A technique for reasoning about these heterogeneous types of data is proposed.

Petri Net Based Software Dependability Engineering

Methods of software dependability engineering can be divided into two groups methods to improve the software dependability and methods to predict the reached degree of software dependability. Among those methods, which aim at the improvement of software dependability, the Petri net based validation techniques to avoid faults during the development phase have attract a lot of attention in the la...

High Dependability Computing Program Evolving a Dependability Requirements Elicitation and Modeling Framework Based on Use

Correctly identifying and expressing dependability requirements for software systems has wide-ranging consequences for planning and conducting software development as well as for the final system success. Yet crucial difficulties exist, many stemming from the fact that definitions of “dependable” will vary not only from system to system, but will be perceived differently by different stakeholde...

Variability management in software product lines using adaptive object and reflection

The technological advances in electronic and software have been rapidly assimilated by computer systems, demanding new approaches for software and systems engineering to provide reliable products, under well-known quality criteria. In this context, requirements engineering has a strategic role in project development. Problems in the elicitation activity contribute to producing poor, inadequate ...

Distributed Datastores: Towards Probabilistic Approach for Estimation of Dependability

This paper focuses on the contradiction that follows from Brewer’s Conjecture for distributed datastores: the need to deliver qualitative data to the user requires a guarantee of consistency, availability and stability of the system at the same time, but Brewer’s Conjecture claims that this is impossible. To overcome this contradiction in the paper it is suggested to estimate statistically viol...
